This is definitely cause for double celebration- so bring out your boots and skinny pants and strut out in style in this lovely cruelty-free ensemble. (Yes, Zara has some amazing faux-leather shoes on its racks).

Pink Coconut Pancake Heaven @Kalpana, Bandra

Okay, so they're more like crepes. :) But they're called Coconut Pancakes at Kalpana. The important thing is that they're soft and smooth on the outside, crunchy and sweet on the inside, lighter than air, dairy-free, and to top it all- they're PINK!!! <3

Kalpana is a roadside stall on Chapel Road in Bandra. It's a family run establishment (their home is across the road from the shop), with fresh food brought in from their kitchen every afternoon. As a result they run out pretty quickly too. It would be safe to get there in the afternoon between 2 and 4, before the food runs out!

Oh and did I mention these little bites of heaven are Rs 5 each?

Fusilli alla Puttanesca!

This super spicy, tangy and somewhat salty pasta sauce gets its name from the Italian word "puttana", meaning "whore". Made with garlic, tomatoes, black olives and onions, the Spaghetti alla Puttanesca ("Whore's Spaghetti") was a quick meal prostitutes could prepare between customers. It probably had something to do with the sauce's hot and spicy aroma. The exact origin of the name is highly debated, but either way it's an interesting story! :)

Try this 100% vegan pasta with fusilli instead of spaghetti and some mushrooms, corn and crispy capsicum thrown in for extra nutrients. It takes about 15 minutes to make from scratch- just saute some onions in olive oil, throw in some garlic, add some fresh tomatoes (two whirls in a blender should do it- a little lumpy is good), add salt, red chilli powder and let it cook for a few minutes. Add in the veggies and oh! don't forget to garnish with red chilli flakes!! :D

Strawberry Seduction!

I couldn't think of a better way to start a vegan blog than to post about my favorite vegan smoothie. Although this space will feature almost everything vegan, food is always a good place to start. So let's make a toast to Veganism with this 100% vegan strawberry smoothie that tastes better than it looks (if that's possible ;) ).

Ingredients:
  • Silk Vanilla Soy Milk (My awesome vegan friend Ashley Fruno introduced me to this some time back, and I'm hooked!)

  • Raw Sugar- It's vegan and is definitely WAY healthier than regular processed sugar. (Refined sugar is processed with animal bone char. It is not 'in' the sugar per se, but used more as a filter)

  • Fresh strawberries of course! :)
  • Ice
Just put all the ingredients in a high power blender (preferably one that can crush ice) and give it a quick whirl. And voila! You've got yourself a deliciously creamy, crunchy smoothie, bursting with the goodness of fresh fruit and natural soy!
